So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:22-24 NKJV
When it comes to faith I know of many Christians who are opposed to the “name it, claim it, blab it & grab it” type faith, but I want to highlight to you that there is tremendous truth in speaking out our prayers, our beliefs and our faith.
In the scripture above, Jesus speaks the word, “says” 3 times and the word “faith” once. In a similar scripture Jesus says to his disciples…
“I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matt 17:20
All we need is faith the size of a mustard seed, but notice Jesus then said that you need to speak to the mountain.
I think it’s fair to say that faith is not enough, we need to speak. It is imperative that we mix our faith with our words.
We all know that our words are powerful…we are told this many times in scripture.
“Life and death are in the power of the tongue” Proverbs 18:21
What words do you allow in your mouth that dominate you? Words of faith or words of unbelief? Words of healing or words of defeat?
The late Kenneth Hagin said…
“Never talk failure. Never talk defeat. Never acknowledge for one moment that God’s ability or power cannot put you over. If you do talk failure or defeat, you are acknowledging that God cannot and has not put you over in life.” Kenneth E Hagin
Let me just point out something else…..Did you know sound has the power to shape physical matter? (There is a great video on YouTube demonstrating this called the Chladni plate experiment which I will post at the end of this blog.)
Now I’m no scientist, but I have looked at studies on the power of sound waves. As you may know, when we speak, air passes through our vocal chords causing them to vibrate and therefore we create sound from our mouths. So if sound has the power to shape physical matter, sound has the power to shape us.
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Prov 16:24
“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Prov 12:18
Our words have the power to bless or to curse. No wonder David said in the Psalms,
“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3
Your words are powerful in the natural and the supernatural realms.
So speak life, speak hope, speak healing, because faith only works by speaking out your miracle, speaking out your prayers, speaking out what God says about you, speaking the word of God.
Whatever it is, speak now to that mountain in your life and tell it to move in the Name of Jesus.
